Title
English: Sampler (USA), 1838
Description
English: The field is filled with scattered motifs of flowering trees, urns of flowers, birds, stars, and an angel. In the lower right corner, Adam and Eve flank the Tree of Knowledge, with the inscription: The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. In the center is a four-verse hymn: HOW beauteous are their feet, Who stand on sion's hill; Who bring salvation in their tongues, And words of peace reveal. How cheering is their voice How sweet the tidings are; Sion behold thy savior king; He reigns and triumphs here. How blessed are our ears That hear this joyful sound, Which kings and prophets waited for, And sought, but never found. How blessed are our eyes That see this heavenly light, Prophets and kings desired long But died without the sight. And the inscription, with a curving floral vine border on four sides.
