Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sambro Lighthouse.

There were two houses here but only one remains. One of the derelict keeper's houses was destroyed by a suspicious fire on September 14, 2008, raising fears about the fate of the other neglected heritage structures on the island.

Sambro Lighthouse is the oldest standing and operating lighthouse in the Americas. Legislation to establish the lighthouse was passed at the first session of the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia in 1758. This lighthouse is also on the list of surplus lighthouses by the Canadian Government.
