Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Monument of St. George, is the work of the Austrian sculptors Winder and Kompatscher from 1906.

It consists of two parts: a bronze statue of saint. He is riding on a horse that is standing over a dead dragon carved from two pieces of red breccia stone. This unusual and rare depiction of St. George, after the battle with the dragon, leaves a deep impression with his calmness. Until 1937, the sculpture was located in Mallnitz, in Styria, when Dr. Želimir Mažuranić bought it. The monument was placed in the yard of the villa at Jurjevska 5, on a pedestal made by Ivo Kerdić. After the death of Dr. Mažuranić, the sculpture became the property of the City through a gift contract. In 1994, the monument was moved to its current location in front of the Stone Gate.

Hrvatski: Spomenik sv.
