Description

SAFETY FIRST “Today, employees on every level of the company have taken an oath of pledging safety first in the performance of their duties. I am sure that this will change the prevailing attitudes of linemen besides enhancing the company’s safety culture. I am very thankful to USAID for conducting this large event so superbly, where over 800 people participated. Hyderabad Electric Supply Company will continue such events to ensure that all staff takes this oath.” Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Saleem Jaat

(Pictured Above) Safety Oath Taking Ceremony at Hyderabad Electric Supply Company: Since 2009, 411 linemen and assistant linemen have lost their lives with 541 critically injured as a result of work-related accidents, in all nine DISCOs. Typically these employees averaged 20 years of on-the-job experience. Losing these experienced employees has caused considerable financial and human resource losses to DISCOs in the form of compensation, manpower replacement, training, medical treatment and operational capability. The absence of a culture where safety is placed foremost, has a direct impact on the efficiency and quality of work, and is the result of an absence of a proper management system. This system, in turn, would help linemen work safely and would have become a shield to prevent future accidents. The USAID Power Distribution Program has played a key role in introducing this culture in power distribution companies, ensuring a safer and healthier work environment not only for linemen but for all employees.
