Title
SF-137523: Medieval strap fitting
Description
English: A complete copper alloy medieval strap plate, probably from a folding clasp or similar strap fitting. It is formed from a long rectangular strip of sheet metal that has been folded in two leaving a slight gap in the centre. The two halves are secured together with rivet holes through each outer end and the centre. One of the outer rivet holes still contains an in situ copper alloy rivet.

The lack of a slot for the pin suggests that this came from a folding clasp rather than a buckle. Egan and Pritchard (1991, 22, fig.11) date folding clasps of this type to c.AD 1270-1450.

Length: 39.83mm, width: 10.17mm, thickness: 4.20mm, weight: 3.60g
