Description
English: Photograph of Lake Chad looking north. Note inundated dune fields. Taken during the Gemini IX mission during orbit no. 44 on June 06, 1966.
GET time was 69:43 / GMT time was 11:05.
Original magazine number was GEM09-B-38444 taken with a Hasselblad camera.
Film type was Kodak Ektachrome MS S.O. -217.
A black and white Master of this image exists.

The central portion of this photo was used in Figure 7 (b) of Temporal Changes as Depicted on Orbital Photographs of Arid Regions in North Africa by Marie H. Slezak and Farouk El-Baz, in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Summary Science Report, Volume II, Earth Observations and Photography (1979, NASA SP-412), which has the following caption:

Lake Chad. (a) Enlargement of the 1975 ASTP photograph AST-9-551 showing the northern and southern basins of Lake Chad. (b) The northern part of Lake Chad as depicted in Gemini IX-A photograph S66-38444, taken in 1966.
