Bahasa Melayu: Bambu adalah sejenis rumput gergasi Ya,bambu tergolong dalam keluarga tumbuhan rumput,iaitu Poaceee. Terdapat lebih daripada 1,200 spesies bambu di seluruh dunia. Terdapat bambu yang kecil seperti rumput padang sehinggalah raksasa tinggi 36 m (120 kaki) setinggi sebuah bangunan 12 tingkat. Bambu terdapat di semua benua kecuali Eropah. Di Malaysia,terdapat 80 spesies bambu,termasuklah yang diperkenalkan di negara lain. Rekod dunia dipegang oleh bambu madake ( Phyllostachys bambusoides) dari Jepun yang direkodkan sebagai bertumbuh sebanyak 1.2 m (47.6 inci) sehari. Di Sabah,bambu adalah bahan mentah paling penting yang digunakan oleh penduduk tempatan di Sabah. Ia digunakan dalam pembinaan rumah,jambatan kecil,rakit dan paip air. Kegunaan bambu lain termasuklah untuk membuat perangkap dan sangkar haiwan,sumpitan,layang - layang,alat - alat muzik,pekakas rumah dan dapur,dan bahan - perhiasan. |
