Description Old Ma'rib was the capital of the Sabaean Kingdom, which is believed to have been the Biblical Kingdom of Sheba. The old capital was abandoned in the 20th century and only ruins remain from the old brick buildings. The new city, capital of one of Yemen's Gouvernorates, lies a few kilometers north of the old town.
