Summary
[edit]DescriptionRuined building on Upton Towans - geograph.org.uk - 1036893.jpg |
English: Ruined building on Upton Towans Also known locally as 'Dynamite Towans', Upton Towans is the former site of the National Explosives Factory. At the height of industrial activity during the First World War, nearly 1800 people were employed at the Explosives Factory, making it an important part of local and national history. There were many buildings such as this one spread around the dunes, remote from each other to minimise the consequences of any accidental explosion. |
