Description

Der Ursprung der Stadt ist der Ortsteil Detwang. Dort wurde anfänglich durch den Adligen Reiniger eine Pfarrei, später eine Grafenburg über dem Fluss Tauber (od der Tauber) errichtet. Diese Burg wurde 1356 durch ein Erdbeben zerstört. Am 15.05.1274 wurde Rothenburg durch König Rudolf von Habsburg zur Reichsstadt erhoben. Den Titel verlor sie erst wieder 1803. Heute ist die mittelfränkische Kleinstadt eine weltbekannte Kleinstadt wegen ihres weitgehend erhaltenen Altstadtkerns aus dem Mittelalter.

The origin of the town is the district Detwang. There was initially a parish founded by the nobles Reiniger, later he built a castle above the river Tauber (od der Tauber).
