Title
Roman torc - view 1
Description
English: Copper-alloy torc of Roman date. Artefact has been made from a single piece of metal. It measures up to 137.4mm across by 125.5mm deep. It is slightly bent (see photos), but is otherwise in exceptional condition. It has a dark green patina.
The design of the piece is fairly simple. The main body is formed of a bent copper-alloy wire which is sub-oval in section (coming to a ridge at the top and bottom) and measures 2.7mm wide by 3.3mm high. The two opposing terminals widen gradually from the main body of the torc. Each terminal section is 32mm long, by 3.5mm thick, with a flat inner face. At the very ends they are 6mm high. Each terminal is decorated with a deeply incised, repeating geometric design. Four vertical lines create three panels. The panel nearest to the end of the terminal has three chevrons (points facing away from the terminal), whilst the other two panels have four in each.

The weight is 32.64g.
