Description
English: Roman toilet seat in rosso antico (red marble from southern Greece), formerly in the Lateran Palace, Vatican Museums The seat is pierced with a circular hole 21.4 cm in diameter, with a nearly square slot (13.2 x 13.7 cm) extending to the front edge. The seat is supported by two parallel lateral sup-ports 48 cm high decorated with volutes at the top front and back; the front of the supports are shaped like lions’ legs, ending in a claw, and there is a smaller volute at the rear base. The sides of the sup-ports are decorated with a stylized relief floral design.
