Title
Roman figurine, male with dagger.
Description
English: Roman cast copper alloy figurine of a standing human male. Rounded head, slightly flattened on top, with bowl haircut and faint features. Both arms are raised high; the hands are not modelled, but the left arm terminal has slight groove running across it. Naked except for a strap running diagonally across the body from right shoulder to left hip, with a dagger suspended from it at the left hip. A little pot-bellied with faintly moulded genitals (unclear if male or female), right leg straight, left leg bent backwards slightly. Fine dark green-brown patina. Length 44.98mm, width across arms 24.58mm, width across feet 14.1mm, thickness at head 9.5mm, weight 18.61g. Martin Henig has seen images of the object and has said "It is a chubby child but he is surely a huntsman with a quiver suspended from the strap. If he had wings he would be a cupid, but he doesn't so I opt for a young satyr, a denizen of the wilds in the entourage of Bacchus."
