Description
English: Discovered in 1909, this sanctuary was the place of worship of the Matronas cult and was in use from the 2nd century to the 4th century. The German Matronenheiligtum stands for “matron shrine” - here the inhabitants of the region made sacrifices to the maternal goddesses praying for protection, well-being and good luck. The deities can be seen on the copies of the consecration stones that are set up around the larger main temple. The sanctuary is part of a broader complex including the two other sanctuaries in the community area in Nettersheim-Zingsheim Eifel and in Nöthen / Pesch.
