Summary
[edit]DescriptionRoman Temple Matronenheiligtum “Vor Hirschberg“ in Nettersheim-Zingsheim Eifel - 50989709103.jpg |
English: The sanctuary was the place of worship of the Matronae Fachinehae cult and was in use from the 2nd century to the second half of the 4th century. Indeed, the Matronenheiligtum means “matron shrine” - here the inhabitants of the region made sacrifices to the maternal goddesses praying for protection, well-being and good luck. When the requests were answered, consecration stones were set up in the sanctuary. The Gallo-Roman temple complex was discovered in 1960 during construction works in the area called "Vor Hirschberg" – this gave to the temple its nickname. The sanctuary is located between the two other sanctuaries in the community area in Nettersheim / Görresburg and in Nöthen / Pesch. |
