Roman Snake Ring
Description
English: A Roman silver penannular finger-ring fragment comprising one terminal and approximately half of the hoop, with rounded-square cross-section. The surviving terminal, originally confronted by its pair, takes the form of a neatly-worked stylised snake head.

The ring is an example of Johns Type Bi (C. Johns, The Jewellery of Roman Britain (UCL Press, London, 1996), 45).


Date: Roman, 1st to 3rd century AD.

Dimensions: external diameter c. 24 mm; internal diameter c. 18 mm.
