Title
English: Roman Coins
Description
English: A depiction of the reverse of a bronze Roman coin—a dupondius or as of Vespasian—from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of Bedfordshire, sold separately and as Map 17 in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales...

The illustration derives from figure 29 of Tabula II Nummi Britannici on Page 98 of William Camden's Britannia, Vol. I. It is provided without a note. Based on other known coins, the original likely bore the inscription IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS with the number of the coin's consulship, followed by PP for Pater Patriae (Father of the Country). The British Museum considered the figure of Fides Publica with patera and cornucopia to be peculiar to the Lyonnaise (Lugdunum) mint, having conflated the figure with Concordia (1).

Notes:
Legend: FIDES PVBLICA [Fides Publica, Public Faith or Loyalty to the People] S C [Senatus Consulto, By Order of the Senate]
London: Sold by H. Moll over-against Devereux-Court in the Strand; Tho. Bowles, Print and Map-Seller near the Chapter-House in St. Paul's Church-Yard, and J. Bowles Print and Map-Seller over-against Stocks-Market. 1724.
