Title |
Roman Buckle |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of probable attachment edge from a military buckle plate, from an elaborate belt suite. Sub-rectangular openwork plate (slightly trapezoidal), decorated with faceted notches, four on outside edge between smaller notch on either side of both surviving angles forming a slight boss, semi-circular cut-out in inside of both angles with chamfer between. >14 x >47mm. No close parallel has been noted but the decorative details are reminiscent of those on buckle plates and frames such as that from Salona, Croatia (Bullinger 1969, Taf. XXVIII). Late 4th century, possibly in use in the 5th century. |
