Title
Roman Buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy rectangular buckle plate, decorated with incised vertical grooves and a central, horizontal bar with a punched zigzag and dots. Three damaged bars extend from the plate. The longest of these has part of the ring that held the rivet joining the plate to the leather. On the opposite side the plate is folded over to hold the, now missing buckle frame. The object is very likely to date from the Medieval period (1150-1350 AD) despite showing similarities with Late Roman to early Medieval buckle plates.
