Während der Kaiserzeit von Konstantin I., wurde die große Basilika auf dem Lateran gebaut, nahe der Aurelian Mauer. Seit dem war der Lateran der offizielle Amtssitz des Papstes. 1000 Jahre später, im Jahre 1380, als der Heilige Stuhl von Avignon nach Rom zurückgeholt wurde, verlegte man die Residenz des Papstes, wegen des schlechten Zustands der Basilika, in den Vatikan. During the imperial era of Constantine I, was the great basilica on the site of the present Lateran build near the Aurelian Wall. The Lateran has since been the official seat of the Popes. 1000 years later, in 1380, when the Holy See from Avignon to Rome moved back, the residence of the Pope was moved to the Vatican, because of the poor condition of the basilica. |
