Summary

[edit]
Description A roller hand spike was used to reposition cannons after a round was fired. The head, with its flat rounded wheel, was wedged under the cannon at an angle, then titled back to lift and roll the cannon back into place. This piece is missing the approximately 6-foot long handle that would have inserted into the opposite side and been used for leverage. Photo by Jeremy S. Buddemeier, USACE Savannah District
