Summary
[edit]DescriptionRoad Work in China.jpg |
Any road you travel on in China's countryside seems to have road work going on. They are constantly improving the infrastructure. Quite a few differences then America: 1. No orange cones and safety markings. 2. The roads are never closed, you can still drive on them during construction (they may lead to nowhere and a local will need to tell you how to get onto a dirt road detour). 3. Bigger vehicles have the right of way when we get into 1 lane situations. 4. The above mini-buses are super popular, and seem to be able to handle any terrain. 5. You will find almost any age or sex working on the roads, from kids that are 14 to women who are 60. One time we had to wait on the side of the road for about 100 vehicles to get through a sharp right turn in the middle of a little town. The big trucks had to eek back and forth until they had successfully pointed down the road to make that right turn. They only thing in there way were the market stalls, which the vendors refused to move. (Thinking that it is a good way to bring business into town). The police didn't seem to mind. We took a seat on the bridge watching the cars pile up and locals go by. Lots of ethnic hill tribes, which was pretty cool to see. |
