Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ro-Ro ramp of the Hoegh Osaka, at berth 101.

The vehicular access to the ship seems to be completely blocked by the large blue machine. This is a Powerscreen Trakpactor 500, a very large tracked shaft impactor made by Powerscreen, a subsidiary of Terex Archive LinkExternal link . According to the manufacturers, this machine "is ideally suited to contract crushing due to its high productivity and ease of set-up, operation and maintenance". At first I thought it might have been brought in to clear the cargo of cars and JCBs from the ship's vehicle decks but, upon closer inspection of the photo, it is clear that this machine was part of the cargo. It weighs 56 tonnes and had slammed onto the starboard side of the ship, resulting in crushing its own engine compartment. Getting this machine out of the ship may prove interesting work. This might be the machine, previously reported as a JCB, which punctured the side of the ship, resulting in ingress of water.
