Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built at King Street and Market Street in 1939, this Art Deco-style movie theater remained in use until it closed in 1977. Between 1979 and the mid-1980s, the theater was home to a church congregation, but was eventually threatened with demolition. A preservation effort for the grand structure was undertaken by The Friends of the Riviera in the 1980s, and it was sold to the Charleston Place Hotel, whom had it restored and adaptively reused as a conference center and events venue, removing the seats from the theater auditorium to convert it into a ballroom and event space.
