Summary
[edit]DescriptionRitual alter set, bronze, Western Zhou Dynasty 1.JPG |
A Chinese bronze ritual alter set from the Western Zhou Dynasty, from the late 11th century BC. This set was excavated in 1901 at Doujitai in Baoji County, Shaanxi Province, China by Duan Fang, who was a senior Manchu official of the late Qing Dynasty court and one of its preeminent antiquarians. Eleven of the fourteen vessels are inscribed with ancient bronzeware script writing characters. The items of the set are listed numerically in a diagram made by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Two small wine containers (items # 2 and 3) share identical inscriptions with the larger wine container (item # 4), while the small trumpet-shaped wine beaker (item # 11) shares an identical inscription with a cup (item # 5). 1.
