Summary

[edit]
Description Earwigs are easily recognized by the forceps-like pincers on their abdomens. They are active primarily at night, feeding on insects and plants. The name "earwig" probably refers to the way their hindwings resemble the human ear when unfolded, although an old wives' tale holds that it's because they crawled into human ears and laid their eggs there.
