The contrast between the cement roadwork and the later asphalt paving, done in the mid 1920's is very apparent here. In some locations on the Ridge Route, one can see decades old asphalt paving over the concrete - which makes the concrete less discernable to the traveler. Looking northbound. At one time wooden barracks on both sides of the Ridge Route housed highway maintenance crews here. Two long metal buildings, similar to those that were at the National Forest Inn, were also present on the west side.
