Description
English: The artist has portrayed himself seated and in street attire. The fact that he is looking away from the viewer rather than gazing forwards as into a mirror suggests that he has copied a photographic image, such as a daguerreotype. In one of his most famous paintings, "War News from Mexico" (now in the National Academy of Design, New York), Woodville includes a model wearing an identical pair of blue-green check trousers.
