The rising sector gate on the Ribble Link at grid reference SD 479 295 in Lea Marsh. This is just south of the Lea Gate Hotel, Blackpool Road about 5 km west of Preston, Lancashire, England, and about 500 metres north of where the Ribble Link / Savick Brook enters the River Ribble.

At low tide the brook below this point and the Ribble itself are unnavigable because there is too little draught available. At this time the sector gate is raised (as in this photo) to maintain a navigable depth of water between here and the sea lock about 600 metres upstream. On the incoming tide, once the water is level either side of the gate, it is lowered to allow boats to pass.
