| Description |
English: Ribble Branch, Preston An earlier Geograph shows a lengthy oil train on this level crossing of Strand Road, protected simply by a man with a red flag. The long curving level crossing is at the foot of a steep gradient from the main line near Preston station. What does it say about modernday health and safety paranoia that, after a relatively short period of disuse in the 1990s, it took several years to persuade the authorities that trains of bitumen tanks could once again be allowed over this level crossing into the Preston Dock area, inside which they are handed over to the private Ribble Steam Railway? |
