Biographies without number have appearedfrom time to time ; his stories are available inevery bookstore, in every library, from one endof the world to the other. Since it has becomethe fashion, however, to make the century-marka moment for retrospection, the writer venturesto say that the work of Andersen has done asmuch for humanity as that of any other literaryman of his time, irrespective of countrj?- and na-tionality. As the childrens Shakespeai-e, heknew how to enter into the kingdom of the ju-venile, and bring forth a treasure-trove of tru-isms that have stood many a man and woman ingood stead. In his Picture Book Without Pic-tures, besides, the artistic scheme is such as toappeal to the most sestlietic sense. The pig-ments that went into the making of this andothers of his works were natures true colors, andthose that life produce. Truth Tales mightwell be the proper title for the stories of HansChristian Andersen.
