Title
Reverse of copper alloy anglo-saxon sleeve clasp
Description
English: Incomplete copper-alloy hook-piece from an early Anglo-Saxon wrist-clasp of Hines's Form B18b, with plate and bar cast in one, a relatively simple bar, a plate with conjoined knobs along the rear edge, and pierced lugs behind the knobs for sewing the clasp to the garment.

The clasp-half has a rectangular bar containing a central thicker and expanded rectangular area at one end (originally the centre of the object) and a similar but slightly smaller rectangular area at the other, leaving the part in between thinner and narrower, with transverse ribbing. The remains of the hook are on the reverse of the larger rectangular area. The plate is has two surviving (of an original three) flat circular knobs with a smaller roundel in between which is partially perforated for sewing onto clothing. There is another incomplete similar smaller roundel at the break.

Compare one from Coddenham, Suffolk, illustrated in Hines 1993, fig. 112b. Form B18b clasps appear to date from the 6th century AD.
