Description

A very studied portrait of a long bearded member of one of the Franciscan group of Friars. Probably a Capuchin given the large hood just behind his head?

And with thanks in particular today to [/photos/60603409@N07/ Irish Capuchin Archives], we have confirmation that this is Fr. Paul Neary OFM Cap, who was Provincial Minister (Superior) of the Capuchin Order in Ireland for two periods in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While this Keogh image is dated to 1930-1940, it may have been a copy of an earlier image, with the original potentially dating from a few decades earlier. The "Rev. Paul" was born in Freshford, County Kilkenny in 1856, and died in 1939 aged 82/83.
