Summary
[edit]DescriptionRestored Lime Kiln - geograph.org.uk - 518575.jpg |
English: Restored Lime Kiln. An old 'Running Kiln' from the 18th/19th century. Fuel (wood or coal) and limestone would be alternately fed in from the top (where the railings now are) to produce the lime that would then be used for such things as an additive for cattle feed, producing limewash and steel making. The limestone came from Knott Hill itself, extending west from the kiln. 518552 |
