English: Detail of an early 18th century French map of Italy showing the territory of the Republic of Lucca ("République de Lucques"). The enclave of Pietrasanta belonged to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Lucca was bordered to the northwest by the Duchy of Massa-Carrara, to the north by the Duchy of Modena, and to the east and south by the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The map was designed by Guillaume Sanson and published in Paris by Hubert Jaillot in 1708. Title of the map: L'Italie distinguée suivant l'estrendue de tous les Estats, Royaumes, Republiques, Duches, Principautés &c. |
