Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Remains of Reservoir, Stonycroft Gill The reservoir was below the quarry. A rusting slice gate mechanism is evidence of its existence. The reservoir was used to divert the gill along a watercourse cut through the solid rock in order that lead mining operations for the Stoneycroft Mine could be carried out on the bed of the gill. The watercourse rejoined the stream just upstream of Stoneycroft Bridge. The mine was in operation in the late seventeenth century, there is documentary evidence of the mine flooding. Workings were resumed in the nineteenth century for a period of six years finally closing in 1854.
