Description
English: View eastward from the Steel Street pathway across the former railway corridor in Newcastle West, New South Wales, towards the sandstone walls that originally upheld the platforms of the former Honeysuckle railway station. In this view, the southernmost platform can be seen, with a piece of the former Newcastle railway line in the immediate foreground (closed and removed in 2014–16), sticking out from the artificial soil covering it. The walls, which date back to 1857, have been mostly buried underneath the modern incarnation of the Newcastle railway line, since the station's demolition in 1936. The walls were unearthed during another demolition operation, this time of the Newcastle railway line in 2014–16. The site was subsequently designated an environmental protection zone, and the New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage was notified.
