Description
English: After conducting a helicopter flyover of the 22-day-old active Carr Fire and the nearby 4-day-old Hirz Fire on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue was transported to the Hirz Bay Campground for a tour of the ground firefighting efforts, Aug. 13, 2018. Joining him to discuss suppression strategy, Burn-Area Emergency Restoration needs, condition of forests, active management and treatment needs were USDA Forest Service’s Fire Director Shawna Legarza, Fire Management Officer Ben Newburn and Shasta-Trinity National Forest Supervisor Scott Russell. The drive up and down Gilman Road showed areas where retardant was dropped, backfiring operations were underway, logging trucks (USDA Forest Service photo by Paul Wade)
