Referencia nacional e internacional como centro financeiro e turístico denominado de Espigão da Paulista foi inaugurada em 08 de dezembro de 1891 por iniciativa do engenheiro Joaquim Eugênio de Lima e do Dr. Clementino de Souza e Castro, prefeito de São Paulo. A avenida abriga o Museu de Arte de São Paulo - MASP, instituições científicas como o Instituto Pasteur, hospitais, hotéis, shoppings, restaurantes, bancos e centros culturais de iniciativa privada e nos finais de semana são realizadas manifestações de rua, culturais e artísticas.
