Samples of red granit from in Gåseberg, Lysekil Municipality, Sweden.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Samples of red granit from Lysekil. The granite is noted for its color and large glittering feldspar and mica crystals (about 10 x 10 mm) that make any part of the stones glitter when the sun reflects off them. The red granite was especially coveted during the first half of the 20th century and used as building material all over Europe. The picture illustrates how light, at different angles, is reflected off the feldspar crystals in the rock. Photographed in Gåseberg, Lysekil Municipality, Sweden.
