DescriptionRed Crystal with Cross and Crescent.svg | The Red Crystal, a protection symbol according to the Additional Protocol III (2005) to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, shown with the Red Cross and Red Crescent symbols inside. While the empty crystal without any additional symbols confers protection for certain persons, buildings, vehicles etc. in an armed conflict according to International Humanitarian Law, the combination of the crystal with additional symbols has no protective meaning and can only be used by national aid societies for indicative purposes. Though permitted under the third additional protocol, the combination of the red crystal with the red cross together with the red crescent is currently not in use by any national aid society. The national aid societies of Eritrea and Kazakhstan have indicated their interest to use this combination in the future. | |||||||
