Description
This image is one of a series from May 1, 1916 of the State Government recruiting for World War I at Beachport. During World War I, in 1915, Prime Minister Billy Hughes promised Britain an extra 50,000 reinforcements. The South Australia’n share was allocated to be 5,600 men. The State War Council and the South Australian Railways responded by dispatching recruiting trains twice to various parts of the state, first in March 1916 and then in April 1916.
