Miss Alice Longfellow,
Dear Friend, -
I will again write to you to thank you for the interest that you have taken in me since I have been here in school. I feel as though I can’t thank you enough for your kindness.
It has been quite a long time since I have to you [sic] and I feel as though you would like to know how I spent the remainder of last term. I spent it very pleasantly. I studied hard and at the close of the term I was promoted to the middle class, and if I be successful enough this term as to make the Senior Class I will be out next to teach. We are required to go out and teach a term before [p. 2] and teach a term before graduating.
After school closed, I remained here at Hampton through the summer and worked in order to make money enough to pay my board this term. I worked five hours each week in the students Laundry and waited in the Students Dining room. I enjoyed it very much. I have stayed here every summer since I have been connected with the school, and have always found my very easy [sic]. Hampton is one of the prettiest places I have ever been. In summer and spring it is lovely here.
My studies this term are different from what they were last. I like them very much. I am trying very hard to make the best of every minute. My work this term in taking care of [p. 3] a teachers room and iron one day in each week in the Students Laundry.
All the girls here at school are formed in circles of ten each, and we do a great deal of sewing for the poor people around this vicinity. Right around Hampton there are a great many old people that are not able to help themselves, and we help them as much as we can.
Once more I will thank you for your kindness that you have taken in me.
