Description
עברית: תחנת רידינג א' - תחנת הכוח רידינג, תל אביב. תחנת הכוח החלה להיבנות בסוף שנת 1937, והושלמה בספטמבר 1938. הספק התחנה בזמן פתיחתה היה 24 מגה ואט, כשליש מיכולת הייצור הכללית של חברת החשמל בשנה זו. הייצור בתחנה נעשה באמצעות מזוט כחומר דלק, שהפעיל יחידת ייצור קיטורית. בנוסף לייצור החשמל, בשטח התחנה פעלו גם סדנאות ייצור נשק בלתי לגאלי עבור ההגנה בניצוחו של המהנדס עובד התחנה, חיים סלבין. התחנה הייתה מטרת תקיפה במהלך מלחמת העולם השנייה (על ידי חיל האוויר האיטלקי), ובמהלך מלחמת העצמאות (על ידי חיל האוויר המצרי), אך לא נגרם לה נזק משמעותי במהלך תקיפות אלו. במהלך אוגוסט 1948 נחנכה בתחנה יחידה ייצור נוספת בעלת יכולת ייצור של 12 מגה-וואט, שמילאה את חסרונה של תחנת נהריים (18 מגה-וואט) שהושבתה לאחר כיבושה על ידי הלגיון הירדני. החל מתקופה זו ועד להקמת תחנת הכח באשדוד ייצרה תחנת רידינג כמחצית מכמות החשמל הארצית. יחידות ייצור אלו כונו בדיעבד בשם 'רידינג א', ופעלו עד 1970.
English: Substation Reading Alef (Reading A), Reading Power Station in Tel Aviv, Israel. The station, built in 1938, was the country's first turbine, with a capacity of 12 MW. It was named for Rufus Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading, Lord Chief Justice of England and Viceroy of India, who became chairman of the Palestine Electric Corporation in 1926.
