Description
English: A Latin inscription recalls its name: SANCTUS APOLENARIS. Next to him is the church of Ravenna, his flock, evoked by twelve lambs. On the site of his burial was built the extraordinary basilica that we can admire today where his figure shines in the apse mosaic in the classic pose of the person praying with his arms raised and the palms of his hands facing the sky.
Italiano: Un’iscrizione latina ne ricorda il nome: SANCTUS APOLENARIS Accanto a lui c'è la chiesa di Ravenna, ovvero, il suo gregge, evocato da dodici agnelli. Sul luogo della sua sepoltura venne eretta la straordinaria basilica che oggi possiamo ammirare, dove la sua figura risplende nel mosaico absidale nella classica posa dell’orante con le braccia alzate e le palme delle mani rivolte al cielo.
Deutsch: Eine lateinische Inschrift erinnert an den Namen: SANCTUS APOLENARIS. Neben ihm steht die Kirche von Ravenna, seine Herde, die von zwölf Lämmern beschworen wird. An der Stelle seiner Beerdigung wurde die außergewöhnliche Basilika errichtet, die wir heute bewundern können, wo seine Figur im Apsismosaik in der klassischen Pose des Betenden mit erhobenen Armen und zum Himmel gerichteten Handflächen erstrahlt.
