There are no two ways about it, the summer of 2010 in South Central Alaska absolutely sucked weather-wise. We barely got any hikes in. One of my favorite hikes in the world is the trip up to Crow Creek Pass. We tried it a few times in early summer but turned around due to the weather; come the end of August we decided to just do it. We did not have high hopes when we started from the trailhead - the pass was completely fogged it, it was windy and cold but we kept plugging away. Almost at the same time we hit the pass the clouds lifted for about 10 minutes, I took some quick photos, we grabbed some lunch, and then were in almost whiteout conditions. We beat a quick retreat down the trail and ended up shooting photos of the creek near the parking lot which was a raging torrent. Hopefully better luck in 2011! |
