Español: Es una especie perteneciente a la familia Eleutherodactylidae, es una rana pequeña, principalmente nocturna. Los machos miden en promedio 25 milímetros y las hembras 35 milímetros.
Eleutherodactylus johnstonei es una especie carnívora que consume gran variedad de presas, como homópteros, formícidos, ortópteros, tisanópteros, dermápteros, gasterópodos, colémbolos e isópodos, entre otras. En las noches realizan vocalizaciones formando un coro con sus llamadas. La llamada consiste en dos notas, la primera más corta que la segunda. La llamada se repite entre 1,2 y 1,4 segundos, y realizan entre 47 y 60 llamadas por minuto. Las hembras son atraídas acústicamente por los machos y discriminan conductualmente las diferencias acústicas entre ellos.English: Is a species belonging to the family Eleutherodactylidae, is a small, mainly nocturnal frog. Eleutherodactylus johnstonei is a carnivorous species that consumes a wide variety of prey such as homoptera, formicidae, orthoptera, thysanoptera, dermaptera, gastropods, springtails and isopods, among others. At night they make vocalizations forming a chorus with their calls. The call consists of two notes, the first shorter than the second. The call is repeated between 1.2 and 1.4 seconds, and they make between 47 and 60 calls per minute. Females are acoustically attracted to males and behaviorally discriminate acoustic differences between them. |
