DescriptionRalph's on the Park New Orleans.jpg |
Nestled among the live oaks and colorful clapboard houses of City Park, is neighborhood restaurant Ralph's on the Park. In 1860, a French immigrant whose second occupation was tending cattle in City Park, constructed their historic building as a coffeehouse and concession stand for City Park. Over the last two centuries, the building has passed through the hands of some of New Orleans most prominent restaurateurs. The owner, Ralph Brennan, hails from New Orleans most prominent culinary family. Since the late 1800’s, the building’s operators have included members of two of New Orleans’ premier French Quarter food families - the Alciatore family of Antoine’s and the Tujague family of Tujague’s. Two famous events held proximate to their tenures include “The Tenth Grand Festival and Fete Champetre” (1890’s) and “The Ball of the Two Well-Known Gentlemen” (~1910-1917). These festive events are depicted in oil murals housed in the main dining room painted by local artist Tony Green. |
