Summary
[edit]DescriptionRaleigh RM6 Runabout moped (1967).jpg |
English: Raleigh Supermatic mopeds were introduced experimentally for use on postal work in 1962. Six mopeds were purchased initially. The trial was deemed a success and they were introduced as standard equipment in 1967.
Another 50 Raleigh’s were ordered but were regarded as expensive at £148 each compared to £233 for a small postal van. The number of mopeds required had been over estimated and a number were allocated to Telegraph work instead. Raleigh ceased manufacture of the Supermatic model and the less elaborate Raleigh Runabout moped was purchased with an additional trial of Honda mopeds taking place.
