Italiano: TESTA ovoidale con naso triangolare, grosse labbra carnose e occhi sporgenti. La superficie è in gran parte coperta da dischetti di argilla.

In Mali, nel triangolo Ke Macina, Mopti, Djenne le ricerche archeologiche hanno portato alla luce in contesto abitativo un insieme di statue di terracotta datate fra IX e XVI secolo. É probabile che fossero collocate su altari famigliari, che venissero offerte nei rituali propiziatori che venivano eseguiti in occasione della costruzione di una nuova abitazione o che servissero come offerte votive per ottenere la guarigione dalle malattie (proprio a una malattia potrebbero alludere i dischetti di argilla che ricoprono la testa qui in oggetto). Invece della frontalità, della disposizione simmetrica degli arti e dei volumi geometrici in cui viene scomposto il corpo (elementi prevalenti nella scultura di epoca più recente della stessa area) troviamo invece fluidità organica, una molteplicità di posture, composizione di scene.

Oltre alle figure antropomorfe vi sono anche figure animali come ippopotami, elefanti e serpenti o combinazioni antropozoomorfe. Figure di serpenti sono frequenti anche nelle sculture antropomorfe, rappresentati nell'atto di mordere, avvolgersi attorno al corpo o penetrarlo.
